This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Serve as Sherweb’s dedicated technology scout, consistently assessing emerging software technologies, platforms, and architectural patterns within and beyond Sherweb’s existing ecosystem.
• Develop proofs of concept (PoCs) and experimental prototypes to validate ideas, mitigate risks of new approaches, and explore innovative concepts without immediate production pressures.
• Investigate new domains even when there is no immediate product roadmap, solely to grasp the underlying concepts and evaluate long-term significance (e.g., experimenting with projects like OpenClaw even if they may never be implemented internally).
• Act as a connector between exploration and execution: once a technology demonstrates promise, collaborate with and engage other Sherweb architects to help realize the idea within Sherweb’s framework.
• Conduct ongoing technology monitoring on contemporary software architecture, cloud platforms, AI agents, orchestration systems, MCP servers, developer tools, and novel programming models.
• Engage hands-on with new technologies by: Writing exploratory code, building isolated prototypes, and creating proof-of-concept architectures.
• Design and document experimental solution architectures to clearly articulate: What problem the technology addresses, how it functions, and where it could (or could not) fit within Sherweb’s ecosystem.
• Execute early feasibility assessments, prioritizing fast iterations, rapid learning, and “fail fast” strategies when suitable.
• Prepare concise technical briefings and architecture notes to communicate findings with Sherweb architects and leadership.
• Work largely autonomously while ensuring strong alignment with the VP, Platform & Engineering.
• Collaborate with other architects when appropriate to transition validated ideas towards wider adoption or productization.
• A university degree in Computer Science (or equivalent experience).
• Over 10 years of hands-on technical experience in software development and/or solution architecture.
• Extensive experience in designing and experimenting with modern software architectures, including cloud-native and distributed systems.
• Proven experience in evaluating, testing, and experimenting with emerging technologies, rather than solely relying on mature ones.
• Exceptional coding skills and the ability to independently build prototypes from the ground up.
• Proficiency in both spoken and written English; knowledge of French is considered an asset.
• A fast-paced work environment that adapts to you.
• A friendly and diverse workplace culture with inclusion and equality at the core of our initiatives.
• Access to state-of-the-art technology and tools.
• A results-driven culture that acknowledges talent, action, and innovative thinking.
• Annual salary reviews based on performance.
• Supportive and caring colleagues from diverse professional and cultural backgrounds.
• A flexible total compensation package.
• Vacation time that takes into account your previous experience.
• Advanced paid hours to recharge (holidays and mobile days).
• A flexible benefits plan tailored to your needs.
• Flexible savings fund options.
• A monthly home internet allowance.
• Paid training hours.
• Significant opportunities for growth.
• A career path with avenues for learning and advancement.
• Close proximity to your direct manager and open, honest communication to support your development.
• Numerous initial and on-the-job training opportunities, along with tools to track your progress and facilitate your career growth.
• Last but not least: “Sherweblife” - a rich calendar of activities that allows us to connect virtually and in-person throughout the year.
