
Solution Architect – VA, LGY/Java

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Oversee the architecture, design, and technical strategy for VA LGY enterprise applications and modernization projects.
• Create scalable, secure, and high-performance Java-based solutions utilizing contemporary architectural patterns and cloud technologies.
• Develop solution blueprints, architecture diagrams, integration frameworks, and technical roadmaps that align with VA enterprise architecture standards.
• Provide technical leadership for microservices, APIs, event-driven systems, and enterprise integration projects.
• Work collaboratively with product owners, business analysts, developers, and infrastructure teams to convert requirements into comprehensive technical solutions.
• Ensure adherence to VA security protocols, FedRAMP, Zero Trust, Section 508, and other federal guidelines.
• Guide the implementation of CI/CD pipelines, DevSecOps best practices, automated testing, and infrastructure-as-code methodologies.
• Conduct architecture reviews, code reviews, and technical evaluations to ensure solution quality and maintainability.
• Assess emerging technologies and propose modernization opportunities that enhance performance, scalability, and operational efficiency.
• Assist in system integration tasks involving VA enterprise services, legacy systems, external vendors, and third-party platforms.
• Troubleshoot intricate production issues and offer architectural guidance for performance tuning and optimization.
• Mentor development teams and provide direction on software engineering best practices and architectural governance.
• Engage in Agile ceremonies, technical planning sessions, and stakeholder briefings.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Over 10 years of IT experience, including a minimum of 5 years in Solution Architecture or Enterprise Architecture positions.
• Extensive hands-on experience in developing enterprise applications with Java/J2EE technologies.
• Strong background with Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and distributed systems.
• Experience working with federal government programs, ideally within the Department of Veterans Affairs.
• Familiarity with VA LGY systems, processes, or enterprise integration environments.
• Experience in designing cloud-based solutions across AWS, Azure, or hybrid cloud environments.
• Solid understanding of DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes/OpenShift.
• Proficient with relational and NoSQL databases, including Oracle, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or similar technologies.
• Knowledge of enterprise integration patterns, message queues, and API management platforms.
• Awareness of cybersecurity standards, identity management, and secure software development lifecycle practices.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Capability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or other necessary federal clearance.
