Software Systems Architect – Clearance Required

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the design of team-level solutions and convert mission, product, functional, and non-functional requirements into actionable technical designs.

• Create and sustain the architectural runway for the team, identifying technical enablers, dependencies, constraints, and necessary architectural work.

• Direct the design of interfaces and integration across applications, services, APIs, data sources, external systems, and shared platform capabilities.

• Establish and guide the implementation of requirements for security, performance, reliability, scalability, maintainability, observability, and testability.

• Set technology standards for the team, along with reusable architectural patterns, reference implementations, and engineering guidelines.

• Collaborate with the Product Owner and Solution Architect to identify, evaluate, and prioritize technical debt.

• Develop and maintain architecture diagrams, system and component models, interface definitions, architectural decision records, and technical documentation.

• Engage directly with developers through design sessions, whiteboarding, implementation, code and design reviews, troubleshooting, and technical mentorship.

• Work in conjunction with DevSecOps, testing, UX, cybersecurity, Product Management, and stakeholders to facilitate secure CI/CD, automated testing, deployment, integration, and operational needs.

• Identify dependencies and promote technical coordination to minimize delivery risks.

• Conduct root-cause analyses of complex or recurring defects, integration challenges, environmental constraints, and architectural issues.

• Encourage reusable solutions, knowledge sharing, team self-sufficiency, and the reduction of complexity.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant experience.

• Over 7 years of professional experience in software engineering, application development, systems engineering, or technical architecture, including hands-on responsibility for the design and delivery of production software.

• Proficient in software/application architecture and system design.

• Practical experience with cloud environments, preferably AWS.

• Knowledge of cloud architecture, secure networking, identity and access management, service integration, and deployment considerations.

• Experience in designing and utilizing RESTful APIs and integrating applications, services, data sources, and external systems.

• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git-based workflows, automation, and DevSecOps practices.

• Capability to work directly with software developers through technical design, implementation guidance, code/design reviews, troubleshooting, and solving complex problems.

• Ability to meet security, performance, reliability, scalability, maintainability, observability, and testability requirements.

• Strong technical communication and collaborative leadership abilities.

• Experience in Agile software delivery environments, leading team-level technical decisions within broader solution or enterprise architecture guidelines.

• An active DoD Secret security clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain one.

• Preferred: experience with Angular and front-end to back-end integration patterns.

• Preferred: experience with microservices, containers, Kubernetes, Docker, or similar architectures.

• Preferred: AWS certification and/or in-depth knowledge of AWS architecture.

• Preferred: experience with SAFe Agile Release Train (ART), architectural runway, technical enablers, PI Planning, and managing cross-team dependencies.

• Preferred: experience supporting Army, DoD, federal, or other secure/regulated mission systems, including ATO/RMF processes.

• Experience with ATIS, Army training systems, learning management systems, or comparable enterprise mission systems is a plus.

• Additional valuable experience includes UI/UX, accessibility testing, organizational change management, and the ability to learn new technologies.

• Occasional travel may be required.
