Software Mission Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Install, configure, validate, update, and roll back software at customer and field locations.

• Conduct readiness and acceptance testing while maintaining comprehensive deployment documentation.

• Troubleshoot and resolve software, network, compute, and integration issues during testing, training, demonstrations, and customer missions.

• Employ structured fault isolation techniques to differentiate between configuration, hardware, software, and operator-related issues.

• Capture logs, system context, and reproduction steps; generate clear bug reports.

• Convert operator feedback into prioritized product requirements and escalate issues while maintaining ownership until resolution.

• Provide training for operators and maintainers on system usage, troubleshooting, and safe operations.

• Keep technical guidance up to date and assist customers in performing routine recovery procedures.

• Develop and refine configuration baselines, checklists, deployment automation, and troubleshooting playbooks.

• Communicate effectively with customers and internal teams, identify operational risks, and balance immediate mission requirements with long-term product enhancements.

• Act as the technical liaison between customers, field operations, product teams, and engineering.

• Work autonomously and travel frequently, translating field experience into improved products and consistent deployments.

⛳️ Requirements

• Hands-on experience in administering Linux systems and independently deploying, configuring, and troubleshooting software.

• Practical knowledge of Docker and containerized applications, including diagnosing container failures and managing software upgrades and rollbacks.

• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, Ethernet, routing, VLANs, VPNs, DNS, DHCP, and firewalls.

• Capability to diagnose connectivity and bandwidth issues.

• Proficiency in using SSH, logs, and system-health diagnostics to identify problems across software, network, compute, and hardware interfaces.

• Ability to write or modify Bash or Python scripts and utilize Git and version-control workflows.

• Familiarity with software release processes and CI/CD principles, configuration management, and deployed or edge-compute environments.

• Structured troubleshooting approach, employing sound judgment under time constraints and incomplete information.

• Clear communication with operators and engineers, including articulating technical problems, documenting solutions, and providing practical training.

• Ability to work independently in fast-paced environments, coordinate across teams, and take ownership of problems until resolved.

• Willingness and ability to travel frequently to support field operations, including in challenging or high-pressure environments.

• Legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying.

• Nice to have: experience with autonomous vehicles, robotics, UAS, USVs, or other mission systems.

• Nice to have: experience with Kubernetes, Helm, Ansible, Terraform, or similar tools.

• Nice to have: backend development experience with Node.js and Python, including services, APIs, messaging, and system integrations.

• Nice to have: experience with ROS or ROS 2, MAVLink, or CAN/CANbus.

• Nice to have: hands-on experience with NVIDIA Jetson, Raspberry Pi, or similar edge-compute hardware.

• Nice to have: familiarity with TAK, ATAK, tactical networks, Starlink, or satellite communications.

• Nice to have: experience with cloud-connected and disconnected-edge architectures.

• Nice to have: an active security clearance.

• Nice to have: previous forward-deployed, military, maritime, or expeditionary experience.
