Software Engineering Team Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Reports to the Senior Director of Software Engineering.

• Collaborates with a team of engineers to design and develop web-based and mobile software products for Common App.

• Offers technical guidance and mentorship to a team of Software Developers.

• Develops high-quality software products that cater to the needs of The Common Application community.

⛳️ Requirements

• Candidates must reside in the United States.

• Willingness to travel to participate in the biannual Common App Retreat.

• A Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• 8-10 years of progressive and successful experience in software development.

• 6-8 years of experience in a managerial role.

• Exhibits advanced proficiency in Web Application Development utilizing JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and modern SPA frameworks such as Angular and TypeScript, along with the capability to define architecture, guide team implementation, and influence frontend standards throughout the organization.

• Expertise in backend and API development using REST with C#, .NET Core, ORMs, and implementing Domain Driven Design and Dependency Injection.

• Provides architectural guidance and best practices across teams.

• Proficient in both relational and non-relational databases, including MySQL and NoSQL data stores (AWS DynamoDB), with the ability to advise on database strategy and enterprise-level implementations.

• Demonstrates advanced proficiency in Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) employing tools such as AWS CodeBuild, AWS Lambda, CloudFormation, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, and source control systems like GitHub, while guiding organizational CI/CD strategy.

• Shows advanced proficiency with AWS services, including Fargate/ECS, S3, SWF, Step Functions, SQS, SES, ElasticCache, CloudFront, EC2, Serverless Lambda, VPC, and DynamoDB, providing strategic cloud architecture guidance.

• Expert in Agile development environments, with the ability to influence practices across teams and lead the adoption of best practices.

• Knowledgeable across the software development lifecycle, encompassing:

• • Code repository and branching strategies
• • Code reviews and coding standards
• • Code deployment processes
• • Quality assurance practices

• Proficient in debugging and troubleshooting production environments, offering oversight and guidance to teams on resolution strategies.

• Experienced in evaluating and recommending solutions based on complex POCs, with guidance on adoption and organizational impacts.

• Demonstrates advanced understanding of OWASP Top 10 security vulnerabilities and secure coding practices, providing teams with guidance on secure architecture and compliance.

• The ideal candidate will hold an AWS Solution Architect certification.
