This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Leadership of the team: Oversee, mentor, and develop a team of platform engineers and Site Reliability Engineers (SREs). Foster a high-performing culture that emphasizes psychological safety, learning, accountability, and ongoing improvement.
• Technical strategy and implementation: Create and execute the roadmap for the platform, encompassing compute, networking, storage, CI/CD, and services based on Kubernetes. Balance the management of technical debt, reliability initiatives, and the delivery of new features.
• Reliability and SLAs: Take ownership of Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs) for platform services, drive reliability initiatives, and ensure that teams achieve the agreed-upon availability and performance benchmarks.
• Observability and incident management: Advocate for comprehensive observability (including metrics, tracing, and logging), lead responses to major incidents, and conduct blameless post-incident reviews with actionable root cause analysis and follow-up.
• Automation and infrastructure as code: Encourage automation-first strategies for provisioning, deployments, and runbook automation by utilizing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and best practices in CI/CD.
• Security and compliance: Collaborate closely with the Information Security team to integrate secure configurations, secrets management, and compliance controls throughout the platform lifecycle.
• Demonstrated engineering management experience: Over 3 years leading platform, SRE, or infrastructure teams in a cloud-native setting (typically 3+ years in management combined with strong practical experience).
• Strong background in SRE/DevOps: Hands-on experience managing cloud services at scale with a solid grasp of SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, and the incident lifecycle.
• Expertise in public cloud: Extensive experience with AWS services (including compute, networking, storage, and managed services) and cloud operational methodologies.
• Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code: Practical experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.
• Knowledge of containerization and orchestration: Strong understanding of Kubernetes, Helm, and associated ecosystem tools.
• Experience with observability tools: Proven background in implementing and managing metrics, tracing, and logging stacks such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch, or Jaeger.
• Familiarity with CI/CD and automation: Experience with pipeline tools (such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins) and automation frameworks to ensure reliable delivery.
• Programming and scripting skills: Proficient in writing and reviewing code or scripts (in Python, Go, Bash) to automate tasks and develop platform tools.
• 25 days of holiday plus bank holidays.
• Option to purchase or sell 5 additional annual leave days each year.
• Vitality Health Insurance, which includes private healthcare, virtual GP access, and mental health support.
• Pension plan with a 5% matched contribution.
• Regular team and company-wide events.
• 2 volunteering days per year.
• Remote-first working environment with office locations in London and Nottingham.
