This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Directly oversees engineers, providing direction on work, estimations, and removing obstacles. You will be the primary escalation contact.
• Collaborates closely with the Product Manager and Tech Lead to offer guidance and mentorship to squad members regarding technical contributions, product roadmap, and other relevant areas.
• Provides constructive feedback and supports engineers in enhancing their skills.
• Ensures compliance with development methodologies.
• Standardizes processes (such as agile ceremonies and code quality standards) while allowing squads the autonomy necessary for effective delivery.
• Monitors tasks, maintains project velocity, and is responsible for squad-level deliverables in accordance with the roadmap.
• Facilitates team alignment through regular sync-ups to ensure clarity.
• Aligns with company goals and measurable outcomes through transparent OKRs (Objectives and Key Results).
• Proactively monitors engineer well-being, identifies burnout, and proposes solutions. Reports to higher management to address systemic issues.
• Utilizes metrics to assess quality and delivery. Promotes retrospective analysis for ongoing improvement.
• Acknowledges milestones and individual contributions to enhance morale and engagement.
• Experience in leading product/tech organizations of high caliber, whether in established companies that have achieved scale (like Google, Microsoft, Uber, Booking.com) or in high-growth startups (such as Monzo, N26, Personio).
• Proven ability to build and manage high-performance engineering teams.
• Background in leading engineering teams focused on Generative AI (including Prompt Engineering, Fine Tuning, RAG).
• Proficient in understanding Technical Requirements with an Emphasis on Quality: Ability to convert product requirements into squad plans and capacity while ensuring high coding standards, maintainability, and avoiding technical debt.
• People Management: Capable of motivating team members, providing constructive feedback, managing performance, and resolving interpersonal conflicts.
• Agile Expertise: Experienced in implementing and refining Agile processes (such as Scrum or Kanban), including task breakdown, estimation, and sprint planning.
• Collaborative and Empathetic: Strong communication skills with a focus on building positive relationships with engineers by understanding their motivations and work styles.
• Quality Champion: Driven to produce high-quality code and emphasizes maintainability, testing, and code standards within the team.
• Results-Driven and Process-Oriented: Balances adherence to Agile methodologies and delivery timelines while focusing on continuous improvement. Familiarity with using OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) to set measurable goals.
• Passion for Product: Committed to understanding the purpose behind product development and the value it provides to users, as well as the quality and standards involved in the build process.
