Software Engineering Manager – Eng and Data Platforms

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Manage the daily operations of an engineering team.

• Guide, mentor, and develop engineers by setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback, engaging in performance discussions, and planning for career growth.

• Define and uphold the product vision and roadmap for the Platform Team, ensuring that priorities align with business impact, stakeholder requirements, technical health, risk management, dependencies, and return on investment.

• Actively seek out project opportunities by understanding stakeholder challenges, operational deficiencies, technical debt, platform constraints, and organizational priorities.

• Convert vague business, stakeholder, or technical requirements into well-defined, actionable initiatives in collaboration with technical leads and engineers.

• Establish clear ownership, timelines, milestones, and ensure follow-through on team commitments while communicating progress, risks, blockers, and any changes to timelines promptly.

• Maintain essential operational documentation, including OKRs, roadmap updates, dashboards, project documentation, postmortems, and status reports.

• Advocate for robust engineering practices emphasizing clean code, testing, observability, incident response, postmortems, and minimizing toil.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.

• Proven experience in managing, coaching, or leading technical teams.

• Demonstrated capacity to define direction, create clarity, and drive execution in uncertain environments.

• Strong product and strategic judgment, including the ability to identify project opportunities, define outcomes, assess trade-offs, and prioritize tasks.

• Proven ability to collaborate with stakeholders to comprehend business needs and ensure that engineering efforts create significant impact.

• Experience with data reporting, analytics, or business intelligence systems.

• Strong sense of ownership for delivery, including the capacity to establish timelines, manage dependencies, communicate risks, and hold teams accountable for their commitments.

• Bonus points if you possess:

• Experience in leading a platform, infrastructure, data, tooling, internal systems, or shared-services team.

• Experience in owning roadmap strategy or product direction for an internal platform or technical product.

• Experience in an environment where Engineering is responsible for discovery, prioritization, and roadmap definition without a dedicated Product Manager.
