This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• The Platform Services group at KnowBe4 develops the essential infrastructure relied upon by every product team. As a Software Engineering Manager, you will lead the team responsible for shaping this critical foundation.
• You will operate at the crossroads of identity, platform reliability, and the development of engineers who address challenges that have a direct effect on every engineer and customer at KnowBe4.
• Your team is responsible for the messaging and events platform that supports custom email delivery, event publishing and subscription (pub/sub, a pattern where services broadcast events and other services subscribe to those of interest), and outbound notification delivery across Microsoft Teams, Slack, Google Chat, and more, for the entire KnowBe4 product suite.
• The choices made within this role have far-reaching implications for every engineering team at KnowBe4, as well as the inboxes and communication channels of a global customer base.
• Experience in people leadership: you have directly managed engineers, conducted hiring processes, engaged in performance discussions, and helped individuals progress into larger roles.
• Sufficient backend expertise to lead confidently: proficient in a typed, compiled language (Go, Rust, C#, or similar) with the discernment to evaluate designs, rather than being the top coder on the team.
• Familiarity with the AWS messaging and compute stack: ECS, Lambda, EventBridge, SQS, SNS, DynamoDB, SSM, and IAM, allowing you to critically assess the systems your team develops.
• Understanding of event-driven architecture: knowledge of pub/sub, fan-out, eventual consistency, idempotency, dead-letter handling, and delivery guarantees (at-least-once versus exactly-once and their respective trade-offs).
• Proficiency in messaging and delivery domains: you grasp what is required to successfully deliver a message, whether it involves email reputation and bounce management or the rate limits and retry strategies of a third-party chat API.
• Expertise in delivery management: capable of roadmap planning, managing dependencies, and ensuring predictable shipping in a platform context that emphasizes discovery.
• Strong technical communication skills: able to create design documents, RFCs, and participate in architecture reviews, along with the ability to distill complex information into clear proposals for both engineers and executives.
• Lead a software team that develops applications using the KnowBe4 Software Development Lifecycle and Agile Methodologies.
• Propose solutions to engineering challenges.
• Offer sincere recommendations regarding the hiring, firing, promotion, and discipline of subordinate employees, which the Company considers significantly.
• Company-wide bonuses based on monthly sales targets.
• Employee referral bonuses.
• Adoption assistance.
• Tuition reimbursement.
• Certification reimbursement.
• Certification completion bonuses.
