Software Development Manager – Insurance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Develop and expand a high-performing team by establishing clarity, promoting accountability, and nurturing engineers at all levels, including Staff and Senior ICs, through intentional coaching and constructive feedback.

• Guide your team in consistently achieving significant customer outcomes within the insurance sector, balancing investments in new products with technical integrity, operational excellence, and long-term viability.

• Apply systems thinking to a highly interconnected problem landscape by anticipating upstream and downstream effects across the broader insurance workflow, managing change thoughtfully, and influencing across teams to mitigate delivery risks.

• Act as a strong triad partner by engaging deeply with Product and Design, constructively challenging ideas as necessary, and aligning on clear success metrics that link technical decisions to customer impact.

• Help steer major cross-team initiatives through uncertainty, breaking down complex tasks into manageable segments and maintaining progress as priorities shift.

• Advocate for practical and responsible AI adoption within your team by identifying opportunities to enhance our development processes and improve customer interactions with Jane, all while upholding high standards of quality, security, and real-world value.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 3 years of engineering management experience, including leading senior engineers and overseeing complex technical domains or multiple teams.

• Proven experience in coaching and developing engineers at all levels, from Junior Engineers to Staff.

• Strong technical expertise with the ability to engage in architectural discussions, coach on engineering best practices, and confidently articulate technical trade-offs in cross-functional environments.

• Experience working in a fast-paced, high-growth SaaS environment where you've balanced strategic planning with hands-on delivery and execution.

• Demonstrated success in closely partnering with Product and Design in a triad model, including advocating for technical investments and translating engineering efforts into customer impact.

• Experience navigating ambiguity, driving change, and fostering empowered, accountable team cultures. Familiarity with insurance, healthcare, billing or claims, or other regulated, integration-heavy domains, along with AI-driven products, is a significant advantage.
