Software Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Lead the GTI engineering team.

• Conduct one-on-one meetings, establish growth plans, provide direct feedback, manage performance, and make hiring choices.

• Collaborate with the product team to transform the roadmap into releases while maintaining accountability for the agreed delivery timelines.

• Make and document architectural decisions across frontend, backend services, databases, and the Azure footprint.

• Review pull requests, set testing standards, and contribute code to solve unique challenges.

• Oversee the release process for the multi-service repository, including release tagging, release candidates, changelog gates, and merge-back protocols.

• Manage on-call duties, alert routing, and the observability stack.

• Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.

• Write code to uphold current technical standards.

• Report directly to the Head of AI and work collaboratively with product, design, and tax content teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in building and delivering production software, including leading a team as a manager or technical lead.

• In-depth hands-on experience with C# and .NET, covering API design, asynchronous operations, and testing.

• Strong proficiency in modern TypeScript and React; Next.js experience is preferred.

• SQL Server expertise, including schema design, indexing, query plan analysis, and executing migrations on live data.

• Production experience with containerized workloads on Azure.

• Demonstrated ability to deliver on schedule in an Agile work environment.

• Excellent written communication skills, encompassing design documents, incident reviews, and performance evaluations.

• Familiarity with infrastructure as code using Bicep and CI/CD practices with GitHub Actions is preferred.

• Experience with observability tools such as Application Insights, OpenTelemetry, or PostHog is preferred.

• Background in leading teams through an agent-led development workflow using tools like Claude Code is preferred.

• Experience in deploying LLM-backed features into production is preferred.

• Background in tax, accounting, law, or another regulated field is preferred.

• Experience in hiring and onboarding engineers is preferred.
