Software Engineer, Operations Research

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Coordinate the scheduling of orders, panels, and machinery across various factories to ensure efficient throughput and timely delivery.

• Anticipate when factories may run low on work or capacity.

• Create models that simulate workflows within factory-scale robotics systems.

• Detect bottlenecks and assess the potential benefits of adding more machines or implementing process modifications.

• Calculate order costs including labor, machine time, and parts.

• Assist in determining pricing strategies and lead times.

• Make decisions regarding which parts and consumables to maintain in stock, the timing of orders, and acceptable levels of shortage risk.

• Implement models into planning and quoting systems.

• Compare models with actual outcomes to validate their accuracy.

⛳️ Requirements

• A strong quantitative background in operations research, applied mathematics, statistics, quantitative finance, economics, or a related discipline.

• A proven track record of developing models that have influenced real-world decisions.

• Familiarity with linear and integer programming, constraint programming, or heuristic methods.

• Ability to discern when a straightforward rule is more effective than a solver.

• Experience in constructing, calibrating, and assessing simulation and forecasting models.

• Proficiency in Python and SQL.

• Capability to write reliable and executable code.

• Experience utilizing coding agents to enhance efficiency and take full responsibility for outputs.

• A genuine curiosity about the physical manufacturing process.

• Willingness to spend time in factories located in the US and UK.

• Manufacturing experience is a plus, but not mandatory.
