Software Engineer III, Backend – Account Experience

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal, +4 more states.

📋 Description

• Assume complete responsibility for backend features from the initial scoping phase through to production, ensuring the team is kept updated on progress, risks, and obstacles.

• Design and implement backend services that handle real payment transactions, prioritizing reliability, performance, and accuracy at scale.

• Engage in discussions about architecture, present proposals to the engineering council, and advocate for clear service contracts and sustainable system design.

• Monitor the impact on production, detect issues early, and lead efforts to resolve incidents.

• Produce high-quality, production-ready code with carefully considered error management.

• Contribute to Primer’s engineering standards and assist in maintaining a consistent quality benchmark.

• Collaborate with engineers during scoping sessions, code reviews, and in making technical decisions.

• Report directly to the Engineering Manager for Account Experience.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven backend engineering experience with the capability to deliver production-ready software with minimal oversight.

• Strong grasp of distributed systems fundamentals.

• Experience in working with REST APIs and developing reliable, observable service patterns.

• Proven track record of managing work through all phases, including monitoring, rollout, and post-deployment considerations.

• Ability to engage in architecture discussions and question unsound design choices.

• Experience in payments, fintech, or infrastructure is advantageous.

• Ability to function effectively in a remote-first setting.

• Must reside in Portugal, Hungary, Poland, South Africa, or Romania.
