Software Engineer – Data Infrastructure, OpenSearch/ElasticSearch

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Design and automate functionalities for data platforms, encompassing OpenSearch operations

• Guarantee fault-tolerant replication, TLS, installation, and various OpenSearch tasks

• Offer domain-specific knowledge on data systems to other teams at Canonical

• Craft high-quality, idiomatic Python code to develop new features

• Troubleshoot issues and engage publicly with upstream communities

• Collaborate actively with a globally distributed team

• Work alongside engineers and specialists from diverse fields

• Enjoy remote work with the opportunity for global travel 2 to 4 weeks annually for both internal and external events

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated hands-on experience in software development utilizing Python

• Proven hands-on experience in developing distributed systems

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a related field

• Openness to travel up to 4 times annually for internal events

• Experience in operating and managing search and analytics engines such as Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, and OpenSearch

• Proficiency in Linux systems administration, package management, and operations

• Familiarity with public or private cloud solutions like OpenStack

• Experience managing Kubernetes clusters

• Strong belief that Kubernetes can be effectively utilized for serious persistent data services
