This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.
• Design and maintain backend microservices in Golang focused on authentication and authorization.
• Create scalable REST and gRPC APIs that integrate IAM functionalities throughout Kong's product ecosystem.
• Deploy and oversee services on AWS utilizing Kubernetes.
• Develop secure and high-performance backend services capable of handling substantial traffic while enforcing access-control policies.
• Work collaboratively with senior engineers, security teams, product managers, and other engineering departments.
• Produce clean, maintainable code that is well-tested with unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
• Engage in code reviews, design discussions, and architecture planning sessions.
• Monitor and enhance service performance, reliability, and security through the use of observability tools.
• Take part in on-call rotation to ensure platform-service availability.
• Contribute to a culture of engineering excellence and prioritize security in development practices.
• A minimum of 3 years of professional software engineering experience focused on building backend services and distributed systems.
• Strong expertise in Golang and production-level microservices.
• Extensive experience in API development and design utilizing REST and gRPC.
• Proven experience in constructing and deploying production microservices architectures.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services such as EKS, ECS, Lambda, DynamoDB, RDS, and S3.
• Proficient in Kubernetes deployment, scaling, and managing containerized applications.
• Comprehensive understanding of distributed systems and the principles of highly available, fault-tolerant services.
• Familiarity with backend security best practices, secure credential storage, and secret management techniques.
• Experience with multi-tenancy approaches.
• Proficient in CI/CD pipelines and tools like GitHub Actions or Jenkins.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases along with data modeling skills.
• Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and system design.
• Familiarity with collaboration tools such as GitHub, JIRA, Confluence, or similar platforms.
• Experience working within globally distributed teams.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging capabilities for complex distributed systems.
