Software Engineer – Backend

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• You will collaborate with full-stack engineers, leveraging your extensive backend and systems expertise to ensure the scalability and reliability of the product functionality we develop.

• You will closely partner with product and engineering colleagues to design, build, and manage backend systems that directly support customer-facing features as they increase in complexity and usage.

• You will be responsible for overseeing the backend and systems components of product features from initial design through to production and scaling, ensuring the product remains reliable as the business expands.

⛳️ Requirements

• Comfortable working in an early-stage startup setting where mission-critical tasks may occasionally necessitate efforts outside of standard working hours.

• Proven experience in building and operating production-grade distributed systems that effectively support real product functionalities at significant scale.

• Strong focus on backend engineering; while full-stack experience is appreciated, deep expertise in systems and backend is crucial.

• Hands-on experience with multi-service architectures in a production setting.

• Accountability for performance, reliability, and scalability efforts linked directly to product features (such as query optimization, indexing, and identifying and resolving system bottlenecks).

• Proficient in leveraging modern AI tools as part of your development processes.

• Expertise in at least one strongly typed backend programming language (C#, Java, Kotlin, Go, or similar).

• Practical experience with relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL, including schema design and performance optimization.

• Familiarity with cloud-based production environments (AWS preferred), alongside experience with technologies such as Kafka, Redis, or similar infrastructure components.

• Strong instincts in systems design, with the capacity to analyze scalability, performance, and reliability trade-offs as product features develop.

• Comfortable operating with a high level of autonomy, managing backend responsibilities from start to finish while working closely with full-stack engineers.

• A strong inclination towards creating practical, iterative solutions to real business challenges, minimizing process overhead and unnecessary meetings.

• Willingness to travel a few times a year for team offsites within the United States.
