This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain, +3 more countries.
• Enhance and fortify LocalStack’s AWS emulator.
• Assume responsibility for individual AWS services, ensuring they function as closely as possible to genuine AWS.
• Transition AWS services from moto-based to fully first-party implementations independently.
• Manage the design of the persistence store, ensuring comprehensive API operation coverage and adherence to LocalStack conventions.
• Address parity discrepancies using snapshot tests against actual AWS.
• Serve as the primary responder for owned services and evaluate customer-reported parity issues.
• Resolve parity bugs within a median of 5 days, including those identified through Terraform and CDK.
• Contribute to reusable testing infrastructure, including conformance harnesses, snapshot tools, and fixtures.
• Independently plan and execute an internalization process from API documentation analysis to shipped provider by month 12.
• Utilize modern AI coding and agentic tools while upholding software quality and reliability.
• Over 3 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong foundation in engineering principles.
• Experience working from written specifications against systems that are not visible internally, such as public APIs, protocols, wire formats, parsers, compilers, SDKs, emulators, or reverse engineering projects.
• A solid testing mindset.
• Practical experience with AI coding and agentic development tools, significantly used to build and deliver real software.
• Quick learner with excellent problem-solving abilities.
• Experience contributing to open-source projects, particularly with sustained involvement in an existing initiative (strong advantage).
• Familiarity with AWS at either the application or platform level (strong advantage).
• Experience with distributed systems, storage, or protocol conformance (strong advantage).
• In-depth AWS knowledge (nice to have).
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, CDK, or Pulumi (nice to have).
• Experience with Kubernetes and microservices architecture (nice to have).
