Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of backend features throughout the entire lifecycle: from discovery, design, and implementation to rollout, ongoing reliability, and operations, with guidance from more experienced colleagues as necessary.

• Assist in the design and evolution of distributed systems (including services, pipelines, and data stores) focusing on performance, scalability, and resilience.

• Create and sustain APIs and data access patterns that facilitate analytics and search functionalities.

• Design, maintain, and enhance scalable data pipelines that support product features, analytics, and machine learning tasks.

• Guarantee data reliability, quality, and performance across our systems while monitoring and troubleshooting pipelines to ensure consistent and timely delivery.

• Foster strong engineering practices: perform thoughtful code reviews, ensure robust testing, prepare for incidents, and strive for operational excellence.

• Implement an experimentation-first mindset: articulate hypotheses and success metrics/guardrails, conduct controlled rollouts and A/B tests as needed, and provide clear reports for stakeholders.

• Employ AI coding tools like Claude Code effectively and responsibly within your development workflow—covering implementation, debugging, refactoring, and design reviews—while upholding high standards for correctness, security, and privacy.

• Maintain a disciplined evaluation approach for AI-assisted work: treat prompts and configurations as versioned artifacts, design regression tests, measure quality changes, and monitor for drift just as you would for performance or correctness.

• Pursue continuous growth: actively seek feedback, quickly learn new tools, languages, and domains, and apply your knowledge to your work.

• Collaborate with Product Managers and fellow Engineers to deliver intelligent, data-driven products.

• Share expertise with teammates through thorough documentation, pairing, and engaging in code reviews.

• Document systems, pipelines, and architectural designs while helping to enhance our engineering best practices.

• Stay updated with emerging tools, frameworks, and trends in software, data, and AI engineering.

⛳️ Requirements

• 2-4 years of professional software engineering experience in building backend systems, with a desire to tackle larger distributed systems challenges.

• A growth mindset characterized by curiosity, a habit of quickly learning new tools and domains, and receptiveness to feedback.

• Strong programming skills and a solid foundation in software engineering principles.

• Proficient debugging abilities and the capacity to troubleshoot and optimize performance in production services.

• Strong SQL and data modeling competencies.

• Familiarity with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD workflows.

• Comfortable utilizing AI coding assistants like Claude Code in your workflow, along with the discipline to validate outputs (tests, metrics, evaluations) instead of relying on them without verification.

• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across various functions.
