Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• You will be responsible for the complete integration of two new hardware devices into our current Flutter application, which includes defining message protocols, enhancing our BLE communication library, and implementing the pre-designed security layers (pairing, authentication, encrypted data exchange) from specifications to finalized features.

• You will ensure automated test coverage for every new communication and security code path, aiming for over 95% coverage and having the autonomy to determine how to validate challenging test cases, including dropped packets, race conditions, and hardware-in-the-loop failure modes.

• You will identify and resolve performance and reliability issues that affect various components—from application code to mobile OS BLE stacks and firmware—by diagnosing intermittent bugs that do not adhere to layer boundaries.

• You will create documentation that serves as the authoritative reference for how our devices communicate with our application, covering protocols, security implementations, and library APIs.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of professional software engineering experience.

• Experience in iOS development is preferred, as the primary focus of the application is on the iOS platform.

• Strong proficiency with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), including GATT, characteristics/services, and connection lifecycle management.

• Experience in production-level Flutter/Dart development.

• Experience designing or maintaining a communication library or custom protocol, covering aspects such as message framing, serialization, and error handling.

• Knowledge of implementing security measures for BLE or other embedded communications, including pairing/bonding, authentication, and encryption.

• Familiarity with software design patterns that promote modularity, testability, and extensibility in systems.

• Experience in performance profiling and optimization for mobile and/or embedded systems.

• Ability to debug across multiple layers of a stack, including application, OS-level BLE, and hardware/firmware.

• Proficiency in writing automated tests (unit, integration, hardware-in-the-loop where applicable) to achieve a standard of over 95% coverage.
