This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +36 more states.
• Create and maintain backend microservices using TypeScript and NestJS, deployed through AWS ECS.
• Design, implement, and document secure and efficient RESTful APIs.
• Transition legacy AWS Lambda functions into containerized ECS services.
• Refactor and re-architect existing systems to enhance performance, maintainability, and platform consistency.
• Collaborate with front-end and mobile teams, product managers, and designers to deliver comprehensive features.
• Clarify requirements, review designs, and ensure seamless integration across services.
• Write clean, tested code and engage in peer code reviews.
• Maintain unit and integration tests while improving CI/CD pipelines.
• Take ownership of service reliability, monitor performance, and troubleshoot production issues.
• Participate in a rotating 24/7 on-call schedule.
• Assist in evolving APIs from REST to GraphQL and integrate billing platforms such as Stripe, Apple, and Google.
• A minimum of 4 years of professional software engineering experience in building backend or full-stack applications within a cloud environment.
• Strong expertise in TypeScript/JavaScript and Node.js; familiarity with NestJS is highly preferred, or similar frameworks like Express/Koa with a readiness to learn NestJS.
• Solid understanding of AWS services and architecture, including containerized applications in AWS ECS, EKS, or similar services.
• Familiarity with microservices, distributed systems, and event-driven architecture.
• Experience in designing, building, and consuming RESTful APIs, focusing on API security and performance.
• Proficient with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, and skilled in query/data-access optimization.
• Comfortable working with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools such as CloudWatch and Datadog.
• Ability to navigate across unfamiliar projects, services, and technology stacks.
• Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Preferred: Familiarity with microservice design patterns, REST, gRPC, message queues, API gateways, service mesh, Claude Code or similar AI coding assistants, and DevOps/SRE practices, as well as experience with Stripe and Apple App Store or Google Play subscription platforms.
