This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts, +1 more state.
• Oversee the growth, profitability, quality, and service metrics of Small Commercial Lines through data analysis, analytics, and reporting.
• Develop, articulate, and align the underwriting strategy with direct reports.
• Supervise managers and supervisors to drive results in the territory through effective leadership.
• Ensure adherence to workflows within set timelines and suggest enhancements to these workflows.
• Collaborate with leadership, field leadership, State Management, Home Office Underwriting, and additional stakeholders.
• Propose, communicate, and execute improvements to enhance team performance.
• Engage in State Management activities, playbook creation, rate assessments, and the development of underwriting strategies.
• Plan and execute portfolio management initiatives while tracking their implementation and success.
• Establish underwriting objectives and development plans, conducting annual performance evaluations for direct reports.
• Manage underwriting referrals within the assigned authority.
• Lead and engage in quality audits and file assessments, including monitoring action plans and team development.
• Oversee underwriter performance across direct reports, including Team Leads and Managers.
• Facilitate team and organizational meetings.
• Collaborate with the AVP/VP on resource allocation and underwriter assignments.
• Consult with the AVP/VP regarding employment, termination, and disciplinary actions, executing mutually agreed employee decisions.
• Preferred Bachelor's degree.
• Over 8 years of relevant new business or renewal underwriting experience with demonstrated production, service, and quality outcomes.
• Required prior leadership experience.
• Expert understanding of Small Commercial strategies, products, and capabilities.
• Familiarity with other Hanover franchise capabilities.
• Ability to promote Small Commercial strategies across the organization as a consultative resource.
• High-level proficiency in underwriting execution and capability to make decisions within the underwriting framework.
• Competence to independently establish account strategies and occasionally collaborate with a manager.
• Ability to build consensus on accounts.
• Capacity to work autonomously.
• Skill in cultivating and maintaining productive relationships and internal networks, leveraging influencing skills to reach objectives.
• Exceptional time-management and prioritization abilities.
