Site Reliability Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oregon.

📋 Description

• Design and oversee auto-scaling AWS systems that handle over 1.5 billion monthly page views for DeviantArt.

• Enhance platform availability and swiftly address any performance issues or service interruptions.

• Scale, manage, and troubleshoot sharded MySQL databases along with search infrastructure like Vespa.ai.

• Create zero-downtime deployment pipelines utilizing Terraform, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, and CodeBuild.

• Ensure development environments maintain production parity.

• Streamline resource provisioning and configuration management through documentation and automated testing.

• Implement security measures, protect against targeted DDoS attacks, and conduct regular patch management.

• Observe and optimize AWS resource usage to reduce infrastructure costs.

• Engage in continuous reliability operations as part of a 3-engineer on-call rotation, available 24/7.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 10 years of experience in roles such as DevOps, Platform Engineer, or Site Reliability Engineer working with large-scale systems.

• Strong analytical abilities with a knack for troubleshooting complex issues, analyzing system bottlenecks, and implementing effective solutions across frontend and backend systems.

• Outstanding command line skills in Linux.

• Comprehensive understanding of AWS services.

• Experience in Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.

• Familiarity with container orchestration, particularly Kubernetes.

• Experience in building Docker images and creating Helm charts.

• Proficient in scripting and automation using Python and Bash.

• Experience handling sharded MySQL databases.

• Proven history of adhering to security compliance standards within large-scale web infrastructures.

• Extensive knowledge of DDoS mitigation techniques.

• Proactive in identifying potential problems and taking preemptive measures.

• Excellent communication skills capable of collaborating across functions and explaining technical concepts to non-technical team members.

• Familiarity with GitOps tools and methodologies is a plus.
