Sessional Ombudsman, Banking and Finance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.

📋 Description

• Assist in managing intricate and significant banking and finance disputes on a per-engagement basis.

• Utilize legal expertise to analyze complex issues and resolve matters of substantial importance.

• Collaborate effectively with seasoned Ombudsmen, lawyers, and industry specialists.

• Render independent, fair, and balanced decisions.

• Contribute to outcomes that impact consumers, small enterprises, and the financial services sector.

• Exercise sound judgment while upholding independence, integrity, and impartiality.

⛳️ Requirements

• Legal qualifications are essential.

• Significant senior-level experience in banking and finance, a tribunal, regulator, external dispute resolution scheme, or a related field.

• Extensive industry knowledge in banking and finance.

• Strong judgment and a proven track record of success.

• Familiarity with banking regulation, Banking Codes of Practice, contract law, insolvency, securities, lending, and dispute resolution.

• Capability to navigate complex legal and commercial issues.

• Proficiency in communicating with influence and empathy.

• Ability to balance independence with collaboration.

• Dedication to achieving fair, objective outcomes and maintaining the highest standards of integrity and impartiality.

• Appropriate background as a senior lawyer, former Partner, barrister, executive legal leader, or banking and finance professional.

• This position is a board-appointed three-year term role.
