Sessional Ombudsman, Banking and Finance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.

📋 Description

• Assist with intricate and significant banking and finance disputes

• Utilize specialized resources, research capabilities, and AFCA’s dispute resolution framework

• Collaborate with seasoned Ombudsmen, legal professionals, and industry specialists

• Render independent, fair, and balanced decisions

• Analyze complex legal matters and apply sound judgment

• Contribute to outcomes that affect consumers, small businesses, and the financial services industry

• Act as a Board-appointed Ombudsman for a three-year term on a per-engagement basis

⛳️ Requirements

• Accomplished senior lawyer, former Partner, barrister, executive legal leader, or banking and finance expert

• Extensive expertise in the banking and finance sector

• Strong judgment and a proven track record of success

• Experience in banking regulation, Banking Codes of Practice, contract law, insolvency, securities, lending, and dispute resolution

• Legal qualifications

• Significant senior-level experience within banking and finance, a tribunal, regulator, external dispute resolution scheme, or similar environment

• Capability to navigate complex legal and commercial issues with credibility, pragmatism, and fairness

• Proficiency in communicating with influence and empathy

• Ability to balance independence with collaboration

• Dedication to fair, objective outcomes and maintaining high standards of integrity and impartiality
