Sessional Ombudsman, Banking and Finance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Australia.

📋 Description

• Support in navigating complex and significant disputes related to banking and finance.

• Utilize legal expertise and sound judgment to assess intricate legal matters.

• Collaborate effectively with seasoned Ombudsmen, attorneys, industry specialists, and expert resources.

• Provide independent, equitable, and well-reasoned decisions.

• Assist in resolving issues that impact consumers, small enterprises, and the financial services industry.

• Act as a Board-appointed Sessional Ombudsman for a three-year term on a per-engagement basis.

⛳️ Requirements

• Accomplished senior attorney, former Partner, barrister, executive legal leader, or professional in banking and finance.

• Extensive expertise in the banking and finance sector.

• Sound judgment and a proven history of success.

• Familiarity with banking regulations, Banking Codes of Practice, contract law, insolvency, securities, lending, and dispute resolution.

• Capability to excel in a flexible, per-engagement setting.

• Proficiency in communicating with influence and empathy.

• Ability to maintain a balance between independence and collaboration.

• Dedication to achieving fair and objective results.

• Adherence to the highest standards of integrity and impartiality.

• Possession of legal qualifications.

• Significant senior-level experience in banking and finance, tribunal, regulatory, external dispute resolution scheme, or similar environment.
