Server Onboarding Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Transition newly racked CPU and GPU servers from hardware handoff to complete provisioning and configuration, ensuring readiness for production.

• Set up and verify out-of-band management (IPMI/BMC), which includes adjusting BIOS settings, configuring RAID/JBOD modes, and performing firmware updates.

• Execute network-based operating system provisioning using PXE booting and automated imaging techniques.

• Diagnose common imaging issues across various hardware platforms.

• Operate and monitor configuration management tools such as Puppet.

• Assess and document dead-on-arrival servers, defective components, and items eligible for RMA.

• Conduct basic hardware troubleshooting and liaise with on-site technicians for physical repairs.

• Collaborate with networking, storage, provisioning, and validation teams to address obstacles.

• Ensure inventory accuracy in fleet management tools, covering switch assignments, rack locations, BMC credentials, disk inventory, and GPU distribution.

• Adhere to and uphold onboarding runbooks and standard operating procedures.

• Record issues and workarounds to enhance future processes.

• Participate in a rotating schedule of 4 days, 10 hours each, to ensure continuous onboarding support.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 2 years of experience in Linux systems administration (CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu).

• Understanding of IPMI, BMC, iDRAC, or similar out-of-band management systems.

• Proficiency in working with server hardware, BIOS settings, RAID/JBOD configurations, firmware updates, and basic hardware troubleshooting.

• Experience with PXE booting and automated operating system provisioning processes.

• Knowledge of DHCP, VLANs, and IPv4/IPv6 protocols.

• Familiarity with configuration management tools like Puppet.

• Willingness to execute and troubleshoot existing automation rather than develop new automation solutions.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for shared documents, ticketing systems, and team communication channels.

• Acquaintance with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or similar.

• Ability to work effectively in high-volume deployment settings with remote hands support.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

• Must reside in the United States and have legal authorization to work in the United States.
