Senior z/OS Systems Programmer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +18 more states.

📋 Description

• Design, execute, maintain, and offer technical support for the installation, upgrades, and upkeep of IBM Mainframe z/OS and third-party software and utilities

• Install and sustain Broadcom Mainframe Software along with associated customer-developed systems

• Provide full-time services to a government agency as a client-facing technician in a staff augmentation capacity

• Support operations in both remote and office environments

• Offer off-hours assistance for new product maintenance applications and environmental modifications

• Ensure that installed software products are compliant with the current mainframe operating system

• Conduct new release and version analysis in lower environments prior to production deployment

• Document test plans and package software changes accompanied by back-out strategies

• Coordinate change control with government IT Service Management Change Advisory Board (CAB) organizations

• Execute root cause analysis and manage vendor software issue cases

• Address questions, issues, and concerns while adapting to changing priorities

• Lead execution and take ownership of the overall success of product installations

• Make independent decisions and respond to inquiries from client management

• Support, educate, guide, and mentor government employees, junior technicians, and engineers

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience as a z/OS Systems Programmer involved in software installation and maintenance

• Proficient in executing software installations using SMP/e

• Industry expertise in utilizing z/OSMF for product installations

• Familiarity with Broadcom Mainframe Software such as CA Common Services, CA Gen, CA Endevor, CA Librarian, CA Datacom or equivalent

• Capacity to manage multiple Sysplexes with over 60 LPARs

• Experience in supporting Broadcom Software and third-party products during Disaster Recovery testing

• Background in government work

• Mandatory DOD 8570 or 8140 computing environment certification such as CompTIA A+

• Active Security Clearance at the Secret level is required

• Competence in documenting test plans and packaging software changes with back-out strategies

• Ability to coordinate change control using Service Now or similar systems

• Understanding of the ITIL change process and government ITSM CAB organizations

• Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities

• Strong organizational skills; capable of working under pressure and with minimal supervision

• Ability to perform root cause analysis, interpret traces, initiate vendor software issue cases, and manage shifting priorities

• Capacity to ensure execution and take responsibility for product installations and off-hours support

• Ability to independently make decisions and address client management inquiries regarding z/OS, Broadcom mainframe technology, and third-party software

• Strong analytical and creative critical thinking abilities

• Technical proficiency along with customer-facing skills

• Bachelor’s degree and over 5 years of relevant experience required

• CompTIA A+ or Security+ obtained within the last 3 years

• Security Clearance of Secret valid within the last 5 years
