Senior z/OS Systems Administrator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Install, configure, maintain, and support IBM z/OS operating systems along with associated system software.

• Execute upgrades, maintenance, system modifications, and lifecycle management for z/OS.

• Deliver advanced administration and troubleshooting for z/OS environments.

• Utilize SMP/E for software installation, maintenance, upgrades, PTFs, APARs, HOLDDATA processing, and the management of IBM and third-party software.

• Conduct analysis of SMP/E environments, zones, CSI datasets, SYSMODs, and maintenance requirements.

• Create and maintain REXX scripts to automate processes related to administration, monitoring, reporting, maintenance, and operations.

• Identify manual tasks that can be automated using REXX.

• Administer and support the IBM z/OS Management Facility (z/OSMF).

• Configure and uphold z/OSMF services, workflows, plugins, and system management functions.

• Leverage z/OSMF for system management, configuration, monitoring, and automation tasks.

• Execute problem determination, root-cause analysis, and resolution for complex z/OS issues.

• Monitor system performance, availability, capacity, and overall system health.

• Collaborate with operations, application, storage, network, security, and database teams to resolve mainframe infrastructure challenges.

• Engage in upgrades, migrations, disaster recovery testing, and initiatives for infrastructure modernization.

• Maintain system documentation, operating procedures, configuration standards, and technical runbooks.

• Offer technical leadership and mentoring to fellow mainframe systems administrators.

• Participate in production support and on-call responsibilities as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in administering IBM z/OS operating systems and related system software.

• Extensive proficiency with SMP/E for installation, maintenance, upgrades, PTFs, APARs, HOLDDATA processing, and management of IBM and third-party software.

• Knowledge of SMP/E environments, zones, CSI datasets, SYSMODs, and maintenance requirements.

• Experience in developing and maintaining REXX scripts for z/OS administration, monitoring, reporting, maintenance, and automation of operations.

• Experience in administering and supporting the IBM z/OS Management Facility (z/OSMF).

• Experience in configuring and maintaining z/OSMF services, workflows, plugins, and system management functions.

• Ability to perform problem determination, root-cause analysis, and resolution for complex z/OS issues.

• Capability to monitor system performance, availability, capacity, and overall system health.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with operations, application, storage, network, security, and database teams.

• Experience with system upgrades, migrations, disaster recovery testing, and infrastructure modernization efforts.

• Ability to maintain system documentation, operating procedures, configuration standards, and technical runbooks.

• Ability to provide technical leadership and guidance to mainframe systems administrators.
