This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Spearhead the strategic identification of emerging, urgent oncology topics and assess their relevance for news and cancer.org content.
• Craft, edit, and enhance cancer news and information tailored for public audiences.
• Create innovative content and storytelling strategies to elevate ACS visibility and engage target audiences.
• Conduct interviews with clinicians, researchers, and other subject matter experts.
• Collaborate with medical editors, the SEO team, and editorial staff on editorial strategy, style consistency, content gaps, and user search behavior.
• Provide guidance to leadership on content opportunities and priorities.
• Assist in the creation of accurate, relevant, and timely medical content to safeguard the organization's reputation, ensure compliance, and mitigate risks.
• Occasionally travel for team meetings, strategic partner collaborations, conferences, or training.
• A Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism, or a related field is required.
• Medical Writer Certified credential or its equivalent.
• A minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience in medical journalism, health communications, medical writing, or a related field.
• Proficiency in reporting, writing, and editing medical and scientific content.
• Capability to identify emerging trends, assess scientific developments, and independently recommend high-impact content opportunities.
• Competence in evaluating scientific literature, research findings, and clinical evidence for public audiences.
• Outstanding storytelling abilities across various formats.
• Knowledge of best practices in health literacy.
• Proficient in the Windows operating system and Office suite software.
• Familiarity with Web Content Management Systems, preferably AEM (Adobe Experience Manager).
• Understanding of SEO, user experience, and accessibility best practices.
• Basic knowledge of HTML and general web development concepts.
• Familiarity with project management and collaboration software, preferably Monday.
• Excellent collaboration, consultative, relationship-building, communication, time management, organizational, prioritization, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to establish credibility with clinicians, researchers, and subject matter experts.
