Remotery

Senior Web Design Engineer

Posted Jun 25

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Develop marketing website components, layouts, and pages adhering to high standards of HTML semantics, CSS quality, accessibility, performance, and aesthetics.

• Convert Figma designs into production-ready web outputs, collaborating with designers to enhance responsive behavior, spacing, typography, hierarchy, motion, and interaction details throughout the implementation process.

• Maintain the quality standards for production web outputs, which includes reviewing the work of team members and assisting in the establishment of standards, patterns, and reusable components.

• Create custom interactive components – including Web Components and vanilla JavaScript modules – where design and engineering intersect.

• Integrate simple motion and animation into component and page projects (e.g., CSS transitions, menu fade-ins, hover and focus states, lightweight interactions).

• Contribute to our Next.js applications and shared component library (via Webflow DevLink) to ensure consistent design and behavior across the marketing site and custom web applications.

• Identify and resolve front-end issues using browser DevTools, including layout, rendering, performance, accessibility, and cross-browser challenges.

• Enhance Core Web Vitals and page load performance, employing strategies for responsive images, resource hints, mitigating render-blocking, script loading, and minimizing layout shift.

• Apply accessibility best practices, such as semantic HTML, proper heading structure, focus management, keyboard interaction, reduced-motion considerations, and appropriate ARIA usage.

• Implement and test A/B experiments, personalized experiences, and conversion optimization initiatives in collaboration with marketing stakeholders.

• Mitigate fragile one-off implementations by developing robust, reusable patterns and clear standards across components, layouts, and interactions.

• Collaborate with the Content and Demand Generation teams as a technical resource for advanced layout, component, and interaction inquiries.

• Contribute to the architecture and reusable patterns that support the marketing stack, including component design, CSS variable systems, and interaction patterns.

• Make practical trade-off decisions that balance design intent, engineering quality, timelines, and business impact.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of professional experience in building production web interfaces at the convergence of design and front-end engineering.

• Extensive expertise in semantic HTML and modern CSS, including grid, flexbox, custom properties, container queries, logical properties, and the complete selector vocabulary.

• Strong visual acumen, with the capability to accurately translate Figma designs and identify and rectify issues related to spacing, typography, hierarchy, alignment, imagery, interaction states, and responsive behavior.

• Proficient in JavaScript, with the ability to create Web Components and small interactive modules without relying on frameworks.

• Practical knowledge of web accessibility (WCAG), applied as a craft rather than merely a checklist.

• Solid understanding of Core Web Vitals and front-end performance, including image optimization, resource prioritization, layout stability, and the critical rendering path.

• Comfortable using visual web authoring tools (e.g., Webflow) alongside code editors, with a pragmatic approach to selecting the appropriate tools for tasks.

• Proficient in browser DevTools for debugging layout, performance, accessibility, and network issues.

• Familiar with Figma as a definitive source for design handoff.

• Strong grasp of SEO-related implementation considerations, including semantic structure, metadata, heading hierarchy, crawlable content, and content visibility.

• Exceptional attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across design, engineering, content, and marketing teams.

• Capability to constructively challenge implementation approaches and articulate technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
