This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Provides underwriting recommendations and decisions aimed at safeguarding the financial interests of both the company and the carrier.

• Assesses proposal requests to evaluate, categorize, and assign ratings to each risk, determining acceptability, coverage, and pricing.

• Establishes, nurtures, and grows relationships with producers.

• Operates with enhanced underwriting authority and is responsible for business development.

• Achieves annual company objectives related to profitability, renewal retention, revenue growth, new business production, and customer service standards.

• Assesses risk acceptability within defined guidelines while setting appropriate rates and factor levels.

• Analyzes proposed changes to plans concerning acceptability and costs.

• Collaborates with the Sales department to follow up on quoted cases.

• Engages with third-party administrators, brokers, and other external stakeholders to strategize, address inquiries, clarify decisions, resolve issues, cultivate productive relationships, and respond promptly to service requests.

• Works in partnership with management, internal teams, and other necessary parties to meet customer needs and deliver outstanding customer experiences.

• Timely completes requests for proposals (RFPs) and follows up for status and competitive insights.

• Trains and mentors Underwriters and other designated internal and external personnel.

• Capable of traveling for visits to external and internal stakeholders to support growth and business development as required.

• Successfully participates in and completes assigned projects and activities.

• Demonstrates the ability and ambition to engage in leadership and growth programs when assigned or nominated.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, a related field, or equivalent education and/or experience.

• Preferred work towards Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS), Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI), or Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) certification(s).

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant and progressive professional experience.

• Proven expertise, knowledge, and proficiency in Medical Stop Loss Underwriting.

• Exhibits strategic thinking, anticipation, proactivity, and the ability to build relationships.

• Capable of reading and interpreting documents such as benefit plans, bid specifications, claim reports, and procedural manuals.

• Possesses the knowledge and ability to apply principles, practices, and procedures.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy.

• Excellent critical thinking and negotiation capabilities.

• Advanced organizational and analytical skills; demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work effectively under pressure.

• Knowledgeable about the insurance industry and the company's business.

• Intermediate proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Teams, etc.).

• Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment.

• Adaptable and eager to learn.

• Strong organizational skill set.

• Preferred: prior knowledge and experience with Young Consulting’s ESLOffice or similar systems.

• Preferred: basic understanding of medical terminology.
