Senior Technical Sourcing Manager, Optics and Switches

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Manage sourcing relationships for switches and optics from start to finish, encompassing commercial negotiations, pricing, quoting, contracting, and account governance.

• Lead the procurement process for top-of-rack, leaf, and spine switches, optical transceivers, and DAC/AOC cabling.

• Monitor allocation of switch silicon, optics, and components while proactively addressing any shortages.

• Collaborate with Network Engineering, Data Center Operations, and Program Management to synchronize sourcing timelines with build and go-live schedules.

• Oversee RFQ/RFP processes, cost modeling, and total cost of ownership analyses.

• Negotiate master purchase agreements, pricing schedules, service level agreements, and support/maintenance contracts.

• Monitor vendor and ODM/whitebox roadmaps to inform sourcing strategy for next-generation platforms.

• Manage supplier performance metrics, including delivery, quality, escalations, and quarterly business reviews.

• Develop and maintain demand forecasts and capacity planning to inform purchase order timing and volume commitments.

• Identify opportunities for cost savings and risk mitigation, such as dual-sourcing, strategic purchasing, and contract restructuring.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in technical sourcing, procurement, or category management, with specific experience sourcing networking hardware from a leading switch OEM and/or ODM.

• A proven history of sourcing switching and optics hardware within data centers, hyperscale environments, cloud, or AI/HPC settings.

• In-depth knowledge of switch architectures (ToR/leaf/spine), optical transceivers (SFP/QSFP), and DAC/AOC cabling, including relevant standards and interoperability.

• Demonstrated ability in negotiating complex commercial agreements and managing high-value vendor relationships.

• Experience in navigating supply-constrained or allocation-based markets while developing effective mitigation strategies.

• Strong analytical skills for building cost models, total cost of ownership analyses, and forecasts under pressure.

• Proven capability to collaborate cross-functionally with network engineering, operations, finance, and legal teams.

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

• Preferably possess existing relationships with major switch/optics vendors and ODM/whitebox suppliers.

• Experience with sourcing for AI/HPC infrastructure at scale is a plus.

• Familiarity with data center commissioning timelines and network hardware integration schedules is preferred.
