Senior Tax Consultant, Fuel & Excise Tax

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assist Tax Managers, Senior Tax Managers, and Directors in providing fuel tax advisory and consulting services.

• Prepare fuel and excise tax returns, registrations, licensing, overpayment reviews, jurisdictional audits, reverse audits, transaction analyses, and refund claims.

• Conduct research on Federal and State/Provincial fuel and excise tax statutes and regulations.

• Collaborate with DMA teams to ensure accurate tax treatment and compliance.

• Aid in resolving fuel and excise tax issues for clients.

• Support fuel and excise tax audits by delivering information and analysis.

• Negotiate with Federal, Provincial, and State auditors during the refund processing and audit appeals.

• Assist with compliance projects and other urgent client requests.

• Prepare updates and reports detailing findings for clients.

• Compile administrative information for the Director, including status updates, job cost hours, and forecasting.

• Travel to client locations as necessary.

• Identify and gather data on potential clients and evaluate possible opportunities.

• Carry out additional duties as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field is required.

• 3-5 years of experience in Canadian fuel and excise tax compliance or a related area.

• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office.

• Advanced Excel skills are preferred.

• Experience with tax engines (Vertex, ONESOURCE) and ERP systems.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Excellent communication and client service capabilities.

• A valid Driver's License.

• Standard 40-hour work schedule.

• Willingness to travel 10-25% of the time.

• Ability to sit for extended periods and utilize a computer.

• Capability to hear, comprehend, and differentiate speech and sounds.

• Frequent repetitive motions with hands.
