This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Serve as the main tax liaison for business initiatives, highlighting tax implications during contract discussions, site selection, and operational modifications.
• Convert intricate tax regulations into practical guidance for stakeholders who are not tax experts.
• Assess opportunities for state and local data center tax incentives, exemption programs, and statutory tax credits.
• Implement applications for incentives, tax filings, and sales/use tax exemption registrations for standard statutory jurisdictions.
• Oversee external tax advisors, legal counsel, and economic development consultants on complex incentive negotiations and site selection projects.
• Model tax savings, capital expenditure thresholds, and ROI for site selection trade-offs in collaboration with Real Estate, Infrastructure, and Legal teams.
• Ensure compliance for secured incentives by tracking data center CapEx, power usage, and job creation commitments to avoid clawbacks.
• Maintain internal controls and reconciliations to uphold the integrity of tax-process data and facilitate periodic audits.
• Manage sales and use tax exemption certificates and direct-pay permits for qualifying purchases related to server, storage, GPU, cooling, and power equipment.
• Keep abreast of legislative changes, state statutory data center incentive modifications, and trends in green energy taxation; advise the Global Tax Director of associated risks and opportunities.
• Over 5 years of progressive experience in US State & Local Tax (SALT), focusing on location incentives, indirect tax exemptions, or corporate state tax planning.
• Direct knowledge of state data center incentive frameworks, sales/use tax equipment exemptions, and property tax abatements.
• Preferred experience within a State Department of Revenue, State Economic Development Agency, or local taxing authority.
• Demonstrated ability to manage external service providers, law firms, or accounting consultancy teams.
• Advanced skills in financial modeling and the capacity to translate complex state tax regulations into financial projections for non-tax stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
• CPA or JD designation preferred.
• Must possess legal authorization to work in the United States.
• Willingness to travel 10% to 20% of the time as required.
