This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• The Senior Systems Engineer will possess extensive engineering and application experience within large organizations and will excel at collaborating with development and system administration teams.
• Responsibilities include implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Ziply Fiber’s growing systems infrastructure, emphasizing automation and efficiency.
• The role involves designing and maintaining Hypervisor Clusters, Kubernetes Clusters, Linux and Windows virtual machines, storage area networks, and infrastructure automation.
• You will provide technical leadership, mentor fellow engineers, and spearhead cross-functional initiatives aimed at enhancing platform reliability, security, and efficiency.
• High school diploma or GED is required.
• A Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience is necessary.
• At least five (5) years of engineering experience with Linux/Unix systems, particularly Red Hat and Ubuntu operating systems in a large VM environment.
• Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in a large, geographically distributed server architecture.
• A minimum of seven (7) years of engineering and application experience collaborating with development and system administration teams within a large, geographically distributed server architecture, including distributed server systems running internally developed applications.
• A minimum of seven (7) years of experience working for large telecommunications companies.
• At least seven (7) years of networking experience focused on server connectivity.
• Experience with large-scale software upgrades and version changes across multiple servers.
• Development Skills: Powershell, Python, JavaScript, NodeJs.
• Practical application experience in deploying/configuring Nginx, Apache, and core Linux subsystems.
• Proficiency in version control systems (e.g., Git/Gitlab, Github).
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, Travis, TeamCity or equivalent).
• Experience with Docker containerization and clustering (Kubernetes/ECS).
• Knowledge of configuration management tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
• Understanding of software lifecycle management with a focus on inception, process definition, and development of technical business requirements.
• Experience with Agile (Scrum, Kanban) software delivery methodologies.
• Ability to write operational guides/MOPs as needed.
• Capable of communicating effectively between non-technical personnel and highly technical subject matter experts.
• Strong communication skills across multiple large organizational structures.
• A proactive approach to identifying and delivering effective solutions as necessary.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The ability to work independently while applying sound judgment and reasoning skills to diverse situations.
