Senior Substation Project Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Oversee and implement intricate engineering projects pertaining to electrical substations.

• Perform comprehensive QA/QC evaluations in accordance with established protocols.

• Assist in the growth and development of additional Professional Engineers within the team.

• Conduct engineering analyses, calculations, and detailed civil/structural, physical, or P&C substation designs and evaluations.

• Generate and assess substation design drawings, which encompass site, grading, drainage, foundation, oil containment, structural steel, grounding, conduit, control building, protection and control, wiring, and communication diagrams.

• Collaborate and coordinate design services with substation Engineers, Project Managers, and Technical Leads.

• Manage projects from proposal scope estimation through detailed design, steel procurement, construction bidding, commissioning, and construction assistance.

• Supervise detailed design and equipment procurement, construction bidding, commissioning, and support for energization.

• Lead technical project teams in structural steel and concrete analysis, design, and detailing for substations up to 345kV.

• Review and execute grounding, lightning protection, battery bank sizing, conduit fill, substation sizing, and AC/DC substation studies.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or an equivalent qualification.

• Minimum 2 years of experience in civil/structural, physical substation, or P&C technical support relevant to electrical power substation design.

• Familiarity with IBC, ACI, AISC, ASCE 7, AWS, ASCE 113, and NESC building codes and standards.

• Understanding of RUS substation design guidelines and NESC.

• Experience with IEEE standards is advantageous.

• Willingness and ability to travel up to 15% within the continental U.S.

• Must possess a valid, unrestricted driver's license.

• Professional Engineer licensure and the ability to obtain reciprocity in multiple states is preferred.

• Required education includes a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
