Senior Structural Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.

📋 Description

• Assist in the expansion of our Energy Practice’s Power Delivery Initiative.

• Serve as the structural lead and designated engineer of record for substations, switchyards, and other electrical infrastructure projects.

• Conduct engineering calculations and create analytical models for structural steel and concrete designs.

• Collaborate with Project Engineers and Project Managers to develop workload forecasts, design timelines, and budgets for civil/structural activities.

• Aid in formulating task and effort estimates for proposal assistance.

• Contribute to the overall business development strategy related to substations and high voltage electrical infrastructure.

• Coordinate with the civil/structural design team to ensure the timely completion of engineering drawings.

• Engage in multi-disciplinary collaboration on the preparation of general arrangements, vendor procurement packages, and similar documentation.

• Create, revise, and implement group-specific standards.

• Draft technical reports and presentations that articulate research findings and recommendations.

• Prepare technical specifications and contract documents for projects.

• Review and validate work produced by peers and the group.

• Mentor other civil/structural engineers and contribute to the development of departmental standards.

• Travel occasionally to other AECOM locations and client sites.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a similar field.

• At least 6 years of relevant experience or a proven equivalence of experience and/or education.

• Proficiency in structural design for both overhead and underground transmission and distribution systems.

• Experience with Substation projects is essential.

• Professional Engineering Licensure (PE) is required.

• A preferred 10 years of experience, with a minimum of 3 years as the structural engineering lead or engineer of record on projects.

• Extensive knowledge of industry codes and standards (e.g., NESC, G.O.95, ASCE 113, ASCE 10, ASCE 48, IEEE 605, IEEE 693, AISC 360, ASCE 7, IBC, ACI 318, RUS, ASCE design guidelines, NEC).

• Demonstrated experience in participating in complex, multi-discipline programs/projects and CAD teams.

• Experience working in 3D model environments is necessary.

• Progressive professional experience in modeling, analyzing, and designing steel structures and foundations.

• Familiarity with various voltage levels (4kV, 12kV, 138kV, 230kV, 500kV, etc.).

• Proficient in PLS-CADD software (PLS-Tower, PLS-Pole, etc.).

• Experience with structural analysis and design software (e.g., Staad.PRO, SAP2000, MFAD, L-Pile).

• Experience collaborating with remote teams.

• Experience managing full EPC and Design/Build projects from inception to completion.

• Background in Owner’s Engineering.

• Familiarity with retrofit or brownfield projects.
