Senior Strategy & Decision Analyst

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop and execute Group and Business Unit cascading strategies in collaboration with organizational leaders.

• Recognize key growth initiatives and strategic challenges, gathering input for the iterative process of Group strategy.

• Support the Board and CEO in defining Group strategy and negotiating significant agreements.

• Convert growth initiatives and strategic challenges into budget considerations in partnership with the Finance team.

• Continuously refine strategy based on operational changes and stakeholder engagement.

• Frame significant organizational decisions and clarify the decision-making hierarchy, ownership, values, and objectives.

• Organize complex decisions using influence diagrams, decision hierarchies, and strategic tables.

• Create innovative alternatives, including hybrid strategies, while maintaining execution flexibility.

• Lead quantitative assessments using stochastic analysis, probabilistic financial modeling, Monte Carlo simulation, decision trees, tornado and sensitivity analysis, and real options valuation.

• Gather calibrated probability assessments, counteract cognitive and motivational biases, and quantify uncertainty.

• Utilize value-of-information and value-of-control analysis to guide studies, pilots, and de-risking expenditures.

• Make value trade-offs transparent and integrate risk-based analysis into strategy, budgeting, capital planning, project assessment, and M&A analysis.

• Design and facilitate discussions between decision-makers and project or analysis teams.

• Assist decision review boards and stage-gate governance for significant capital projects.

• Provide independent assessments of Decision Quality for decisions prepared externally.

• Aid leaders in structuring, analyzing, and presenting challenging decisions, including support during negotiations.

• Contribute decision-analysis insights to M&A screening, evaluation, and post-merger integration planning.

• Educate executives and analysts on Decision Quality principles.

• Establish standards, templates, and a shared language for framing, analyzing, and documenting decisions and risks.

• Integrate proportionate Decision Quality standards into planning and budgeting cycles with Finance.

• Build and lead a small decision-support team over time.

• Manage external decision analysis and consulting support as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of experience in decision analysis or decision science, or in strategy consulting with a proven decision analysis practice.

• Ideally possessing experience in natural resources, energy, or capital-intensive sectors.

• Extensive practical expertise in decision framing and structuring, probability elicitation and debiasing, Monte Carlo simulation, decision trees, influence diagrams, real options, value of information, multi-objective trade-off analysis, financial modeling, and valuation.

• Demonstrated experience in facilitating executive-level decision-making and strategy processes.

• Comfortable leading workshops with Business Unit, Operational Unit, and functional leaders while challenging senior leaders on framing and logic without biasing the content.

• Strong communication skills, capable of translating probabilistic and abstract concepts into clear insights for Boards and operational leaders.

• Proven track record of enhancing decision-making competency within organizations.

• Affiliation with the Society of Decision Professionals or a similar organization is highly regarded.

• SDP certification is advantageous.

• Fluency in English is required.

• Knowledge of Portuguese and/or French is a plus.
