Senior / Staff Software Engineer, Cloud & Real Time Infrastructure

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the real-time telemetry and dispatch data pathway from the edge through streaming ingestion into the warehouse and back to asset dispatch.

• Define service-level objectives, implement freshness monitoring, and identify gaps in telemetry data.

• Manage and enhance AWS infrastructure across multiple accounts utilizing Terraform.

• Operate containerized services on ECS and Lambda.

• Oversee orchestration, networking, secrets management, access controls, and supporting infrastructure.

• Develop rapid, reliable CI, hermetic testing infrastructure, preview environments, progressive delivery, and automated guardrails.

• Set up cost controls and verification workflows for autonomous development systems.

• Participate in the on-call rotation for systems that dispatch instructions to a physical plant.

• Build observability, alerting, and response processes for field operations.

• Define escalation paths across cloud infrastructure, site controls, and the market operations desk.

• Create self-service tools, paved paths, and platform capabilities for engineers.

• Establish infrastructure standards while minimizing unnecessary processes.

⛳️ Requirements

• Several years of experience in building and operating cloud infrastructure at scale.

• Strong expertise in AWS, Terraform, containers, and CI/CD.

• Primary on-call responsibility for a production system.

• Planned and executed at least one zero-downtime migration involving a stateful, always-on service.

• Experience with industrial technology, energy, robotics, automotive, or other environments where software failures have significant operational consequences.

• Experience in creating widely adopted self-service tooling for engineers.

• Strong programming skills in Python, Go, or both.

• Regular use of AI coding tools with the ability to review and verify their outputs.

• Capability to design safeguards and controls that are proportional to operational risks.

• Willingness to learn about industrial protocols and operational technology.

• Bonus: experience with MQTT or Sparkplug B.

• Bonus: familiarity with HiveMQ, NATS, Ignition, or industrial historians.
