This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +2 more states.
• Design, develop, and implement comprehensive calibration systems from start to finish, encompassing algorithms, fixtures, on-fixture software, data pipelines, validation, and operator workflows.
• Take ownership of calibration for perception sensors (such as RGB cameras, LiDAR, thermal imagers, and other modalities) and manage kinematic calibration of the robot, integrating sensor extrinsics with arm and whole-body kinematics.
• Create the data and metrics framework that supports calibration, including individual records, accuracy and drift measurements, traceability, and fleet-level monitoring.
• Manage the development of calibration fixture software, including applications designed for operators on Linux platforms.
• Ensure the implementation of in-field self-check and recalibration features to uphold calibration accuracy throughout Digit's operational lifespan.
• Specify the requirements that calibration outputs impose on downstream manufacturing processes, addressing aspects such as cycle time, repeatability, data collection, and operator workflows.
• Collaborate with sensor manufacturers and contract producers to implement calibration processes at their facilities, which includes creating process documentation, providing operator training, and establishing acceptance criteria.
• Identify, recruit, mentor, and support the development of engineers involved in calibration initiatives.
• A minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in calibrating complex robotic or sensor-laden systems in real-world production settings.
• Proven history of designing and delivering calibration systems from inception to completion, including algorithms, fixtures, on-fixture software, validation, and operator workflows.
• Extensive knowledge across various sensor modalities (including RGB cameras, LiDAR, thermal imagers, IMUs, encoders, etc.), with proficiency in kinematic calibration and the integration of sensor extrinsics with kinematics.
• Clear understanding of the requirements for production calibration, focusing on repeatability, data collection, simplicity, and throughput.
• Experience in establishing the data and metrics infrastructure necessary for scaling calibration processes.
• Proficient programming skills in C++ and Python.
• A player-coach mindset: able to execute technical tasks directly while also recognizing and nurturing the talent contributing to those efforts.
• Strong collaborative skills across various stakeholders, including hardware, controls, perception, sensor vendors, and contract manufacturers.
