Senior Staff Engineer – HL7

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and sustain HL7 interfaces (v2.x, v3, CDA, FHIR) among healthcare systems.

• Create and assist in the integration of EHR/EMR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner, Allscripts).

• Configure and oversee integration engines (e.g., Mirth Connect, Rhapsody, Cloverleaf).

• Analyze, transform, and map formats of healthcare data and message structures.

• Diagnose interface problems, message failures, and data inconsistencies.

• Implement mechanisms for data validation, error handling, and logging.

• Ensure adherence to HIPAA and the standards of healthcare data security.

• Work collaboratively with clinical, technical, and vendor teams to establish integration requirements.

• Facilitate real-time and batch data exchange workflows.

• Maintain thorough documentation for interfaces, mappings, and workflows.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, or a related discipline.

• Over 10 years of experience in healthcare IT, interface development, or systems integration.

• More than 7 years of practical experience with HL7 v2.x, HL7 FHIR, X12, or other healthcare messaging standards.

• Strong expertise in HL7 v2.x messaging standards (ADT, ORU, ORM, etc.).

• Familiarity with FHIR APIs and contemporary interoperability frameworks.

• Practical experience with integration engines (preferably Mirth Connect).

• Proficient in Java, JavaScript, or similar scripting languages.

• Experience with XML, JSON, and RESTful APIs.

• Understanding of healthcare workflows and clinical data.

• Must possess legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship.

• Must successfully pass a comprehensive background check, including a drug screening.
