This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Create and enhance core platform services, prioritizing reliability, data integrity, and well-defined service boundaries that align with business objectives.
• Recognize architectural risks, scalability constraints, and vulnerabilities before they escalate into production challenges; be able to determine when existing tools (queues, storage, frameworks) have reached their limits and recommend practical, incremental improvement or migration strategies.
• Serve as the primary technical liaison with partners: lead solution evaluations, troubleshooting efforts, and alignment of roadmaps; document technical decisions and integration specifications; ensure partners are informed about expectations, timelines, and constraints.
• Develop and refine reliability mechanisms: retries and backoff strategies, timeouts and idempotency, managing partial failures, and implementing degraded and fallback modes.
• Propel enhancements in observability (metrics, logs, tracing, operational visibility) and engage in analysis of production incidents.
• Contribute during the Discovery phase of projects: create PoCs, validate concepts, and analyze third-party vendor APIs along with proposed integration flows.
• Implement the most intricate and high-risk backend components utilizing TypeScript and Node.js, ensuring correctness under partial failure conditions.
• Elevate the overall technical proficiency of the team, including senior engineers: conduct thorough code reviews, break down large or ambiguous challenges, and promote knowledge sharing through pairing and documentation.
• A minimum of 6 years of professional backend development experience.
• Extensive hands-on experience in building and managing crypto infrastructure: custody, wallets, exchanges, payment, or settlement systems.
• Strong backend proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js.
• In-depth experience in distributed system design: microservices architecture, service boundaries and data models, REST APIs and API contracts, queues, and asynchronous communication.
• Practical experience in production environments: incident response, debugging, API failures, and data issues.
• Experience in managing services from design through to production support.
• Excellent knowledge of SQL (PostgreSQL) and familiarity with other storage solutions.
• A strong reliability mindset, with experience in handling failure scenarios; skilled in enhancing observability and analyzing production incidents.
• Proficient in the daily use of AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Copilot).
• Capability to mentor engineers, including those at the senior level, and to assess trade-offs while proposing practical solutions.
• Outstanding communication abilities, capable of bridging technical and business discussions; proficient in written and spoken English.
• Company-issued laptop.
• Technology accessories.
• Annual in-person full-team meetup.
