This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Assist in the design and development of Cribl’s customer-centric metric store for managing high-volume telemetry data.
• Produce clean, maintainable, and testable code, focusing on performance, observability, and operational resilience.
• Create scalable backend services and APIs for metric ingestion, storage, metadata management, and query execution.
• Engage in data modeling and storage strategies for time-series data, addressing high-cardinality dimensions, labels, fingerprints, rollups, and retention policies.
• Collaborate with Product and Design teams to transform complex observability workflows into user-friendly capabilities.
• Work alongside engineers at Cribl to incorporate metric storage and querying features into comprehensive product experiences.
• Evaluate and enhance query performance, ingestion rates, storage efficiency, and system reliability.
• Contribute to defining engineering practices for a new product domain, encompassing testing, deployment, monitoring, and operational readiness.
• Mentor and empower junior engineers to take ownership of significant technical challenges and expand their influence.
• Collaborate with Management, Product Engineering, and Operations to establish and project quarterly objectives that balance new features, technical debt, reliability, and client needs.
• Advocate for the entire software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and design through testing, deployment, and production support.
• Participate in on-call duties as part of a team that values service ownership.
• This role may involve on-call, standby, or after-hours responsibilities.
• Candidates must meet U.S. government security criteria for access to FedRAMP-authorized systems, which may require U.S. citizenship.
• Proven experience in developing backend services within complex, large-scale distributed systems.
• Proficient in writing clean, maintainable, and testable production code, preferably using Node.js and TypeScript.
• Experience in creating SaaS platforms, data platforms, observability systems, or high-volume cloud services.
• Familiarity with time-series data, metrics, telemetry pipelines, query systems, or analytical databases.
• Background in designing APIs and interfaces that are secure, user-friendly, and adaptable for future growth.
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, Linux, networking, and the fundamentals of distributed systems.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure on AWS or another leading cloud provider.
• Familiarity with storage systems, query performance optimization, indexing strategies, partitioning, caching, or data lifecycle management.
• Knowledge of observability concepts such as metrics, labels, dimensions, cardinality, histograms, counters, gauges, and query languages like PromQL is a notable advantage.
• Experience with technologies such as ClickHouse, Prometheus, Mimir, Thanos, VictoriaMetrics, OpenTelemetry, Kafka, Kinesis, S3, or similar solutions is a significant plus.
• Familiarity with testing frameworks and tools like Mocha, Jest, Cypress, or equivalent tools for automating regression tests.
• Experience with CI/CD processes using platforms such as Bitbucket, Jenkins, CircleCI, GitHub Actions, or comparable systems.
• A self-motivated individual who can work independently and swiftly adapt in unclear technical situations.
• A strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, elegant software.
