Senior Software Engineer – Site Reliability

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, review, test, and deploy software to enhance service availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency.

• Automate repetitive operational tasks, checklists, and validation processes.

• Collaborate with stakeholders to define SLOs and establish monitoring and alerting mechanisms to uphold them.

• Troubleshoot production issues across application code, Linux environments, and networking components.

• Facilitate blameless postmortems and conduct root cause analyses.

• Implement solutions that eradicate entire categories of problems.

• Utilize data to plan for capacity and manage costs effectively.

• Create documentation for systems and software aimed at operational use.

• Engage in the critical incident response team as part of a structured on-call rotation.

• Acquire knowledge and manage infrastructure that includes globally distributed DNS, anycast networks, and VPN protocols.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

• Over 5 years of professional experience in software development using one or more general-purpose programming languages.

• Proven experience in creating automation that has reduced actual operational workload.

• Proficient in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed systems in a production environment.

• Familiarity with Git, testing practices, code review, and Continuous Integration (CI) as part of everyday workflow.

• Comfortable navigating and working within a large codebase that you did not author.

• Strong foundational knowledge of Linux, containers, and infrastructure as code tools (Terraform, Ansible, or similar).

• Experience integrating observability features into code using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or equivalents.

• Proficiency in Go is preferred; experience with Python, Rust, and C/C++ is also relevant.

• Participation in an established on-call rotation is mandatory.

• Not primarily focused on systems administration, NOC, or infrastructure operations roles.

• Not primarily engaged in advisory roles related to observability and reliability without the implementation of software to respond to signals.
