Senior Software Engineer – Scala

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Costa Rica.

📋 Description

• Design, create, and sustain scalable backend services utilizing Scala.

• Develop and enhance distributed systems capable of processing large-scale data workloads.

• Create integrations with cloud services across AWS and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

• Implement secure authentication and authorization methods using cloud-native identity services.

• Construct and maintain data pipelines that support data ingestion, transformation, and analytics.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish technical requirements and deliver effective solutions.

• Ensure system reliability, observability, performance, and operational excellence.

• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.

• Engage in code reviews and provide mentorship to other engineers.

• Diagnose and resolve issues in distributed, cloud-based environments.

• Develop and implement thorough testing strategies, including unit, component, and integration testing.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong proficiency in Scala and experience with sbt for build management.

• Solid understanding of functional programming principles and best practices.

• Experience with JSON serialization and deserialization frameworks such as Circe.

• Hands-on experience with AWS and/or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

• Knowledge of cloud authentication and authorization mechanisms, including: IAM, STS, AssumeRole, and WebIdentity.

• Experience integrating with AWS SDKs, particularly: Amazon S3 and AWS STS.

• Experience working with: Google BigQuery and Google Dataflow.

• Strong SQL skills and experience with PostgreSQL.

• Experience in asynchronous and concurrent programming using technologies such as: FS2 and cats-effect.

• Familiarity with distributed messaging platforms such as Google Pub/Sub.

• Strong testing experience, including unit, component, and integration testing.

• Experience troubleshooting distributed systems and cloud-native applications.

• Proficiency with Git and modern software development workflows.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.

• Minimum of 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, preferably in backend engineering, data platforms, or data-intensive systems.

• Experience with Finagle or similar RPC frameworks.

• Knowledge of data pipeline orchestration and workflow management tools.

• Experience deploying and operating applications in Kubernetes environments.

• Familiarity with containerization technologies and cloud-native architectures.

• Experience building highly observable and resilient data processing systems.
