Senior Software Engineer – Postgres

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design and develop backend services that orchestrate and manage database clusters within ClickHouse Cloud.

• Enhance our platform control plane — developed in Ruby, Go, and TypeScript — to incorporate new Postgres features.

• Contribute to PostgreSQL extensions and data plane agents, utilizing C, C++, or Rust.

• Assist in automation and tooling that streamlines cluster provisioning, scaling, and lifecycle management.

• Collaborate with infrastructure, SRE, and product teams to uphold operational excellence, performance, and reliability.

• Create APIs and integrations that expose new Postgres functionalities to both customers and internal systems.

• Enhance observability, deployment safety, and debugging workflows for database services.

• Engage in design discussions, code reviews, and on-call rotations, contributing to the team's overall reliability and efficiency.

• Work autonomously — identifying opportunities, driving execution, and making a significant impact.

⛳️ Requirements

• 6+ years of experience in software engineering, preferably with a background in building or managing database or cloud platform systems.

• Profound knowledge of Postgres — including configuration, extensions, operations, and performance tuning.

• Strong programming skills in one or more of Ruby, Go, Rust, C, or Python (with a willingness to work across various languages).

• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, APIs, and automation tools such as Terraform, Kubernetes, and CI/CD.

• Understanding of distributed systems, data replication, and service orchestration patterns.

• Pragmatic, detail-oriented, and comfortable with both greenfield development and operational responsibilities.

• Willingness to contribute where necessary — from backend APIs and platform automation to Postgres internals and debugging.

• Strong communicator who effectively collaborates across teams in a fast-paced, cross-functional setting.
