Senior Software Engineer, Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Develop and sustain our internal developer platforms, encompassing self-serve infrastructure, paved paths, and automation centered around AI. The automation code will primarily be written in Python and JS/TS.

• Manage and enhance our cloud infrastructure, with a focus on Kubernetes (EKS), AWS, Postgres, Redis, Kafka, and Elasticsearch. Utilize tools such as Terraform and Crossplane to maintain a declarative infrastructure.

• Provide support to fellow engineers as a trusted technical authority and embed tribal knowledge into tools and documentation, ensuring the platform serves as the definitive source of truth rather than an individual.

• Act as a technical mentor: Guide interns directly and elevate the skills of other engineers through Lunch & Learns, guilds, documentation, and shared knowledge initiatives.

• Engage strategically during goal-setting, retrospectives, and cross-team dialogues, contributing to the development of the infrastructure roadmap.

• Assist in upholding the availability, reliability, and security of our production infrastructure by being part of our on-call rotation, including monitoring, incident response, and troubleshooting outside of standard business hours.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in roles such as Software Engineer, DevOps, SRE, and/or Platform Engineering.

• Proven track record in enhancing developer productivity through platform tools, infrastructure automation, self-service features, or internal developer platforms. Responsible for projects from conception to production.

• AI-first approach: Professional expertise in the safe application of AI in infrastructure and platform engineering projects, with strong opinions on safe AI practices for high-impact production workloads.

• Solid understanding of cloud technology fundamentals: Proficient with AWS, Kubernetes, IAC, and contemporary CI/CD tools.

• Senior-level experience in administratively managing core service infrastructure, including servers, databases, caches, message queues, and data networks.

• A demonstrated commitment to operational excellence, featuring system reliability, participation in on-call duties, incident response, and a focus on continuous improvement practices.

• Comfortable in a high-velocity scale-up environment characterized by broad responsibilities, significant autonomy, and rapid asynchronous remote communication.
