This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +5 more states.
• Our pipeline team is on the lookout for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to strengthen our capability to manage the increasing demands of our workload.
• Flock is progressively expanding its customer base, which results in an influx of data.
• Currently, Flock processes approximately 2 billion assets in real-time every day (including License Plate Recognition data, audio clips, and images—no raw video).
• To maintain our growth trajectory, we must minimize pipeline latency, manage substantial asset volumes, address scalability challenges, and develop new features that support the business.
• This position focuses on data processing and architectural design within a high-scale backend ecosystem.
• A passion for coding, with extensive experience in software development.
• Driven by the challenge of tackling unknown problems, devising a strategic approach (ownership mindset).
• Strong expertise in TypeScript backend patterns (Node.js, asynchronous behavior, and typing complex data structures).
• Proficiency or a strong willingness to quickly learn Go, as the team is transitioning to a more Go-centric approach in the future.
• Experience with microservice-oriented architecture and designing distributed systems at scale (capable of handling high traffic loads and massive data ingestion).
• Solid background in backend/database systems and pub/sub mechanisms, utilizing Postgres DB, OpenSearch, DynamoDB, and Redis. Competence in tuning and optimizing PostgreSQL performance when multiple services interact with it.
• Familiarity with AWS and cloud tools such as Kubernetes (EKS), SQS, SNS, and Docker.
• Exceptional cross-functional communication and collaboration skills, with a proven history of working closely with teams such as Hardware, ML, Web, Mobile, and Data Science.
• Experience serving as a domain expert, mentoring junior engineers through code reviews, identifying teaching moments, and prioritizing the team's success.
