Senior Software Engineer, Operator Tools

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Create and develop the desktop applications and interfaces utilized daily by Elroy’s operators and engineers.

• Design mission planning tools, real-time telemetry displays, diagnostic interfaces, and ground support workflows.

• Work in close collaboration with engineers from diverse fields such as embedded systems, control systems, flight physics, and power electronics.

• Comprehend the data you are visualizing and the workflows you are enhancing.

• Contribute to the overall software architecture and developer experience of the team, especially regarding tooling and internal platforms.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional software development experience, with a background in both desktop application development and web-based tools, ideally in both areas.

• Proficient in C++ and/or Python; demonstrated experience in structuring complex desktop applications.

• Proven track record of developing UIs that are effective in real-world operational settings, rather than just for demonstration purposes.

• Capability to work across the technology stack: from application logic to protocol parsing or up to data visualization.

• Experience in integrating applications with actual hardware or real-time data sources.

• High expectations for software architecture, API design, and quality of internal tooling.

• Bonus: Experience in aerospace, defense, robotics, or other safety-critical fields.

• Understanding of embedded software concepts: while you don’t need to write firmware, you should be able to read, build, run it, and grasp its constraints.

• Experience with cloud-based simulation or batch processing infrastructure.

• Familiarity with geospatial visualization, 3D rendering, or handling time-series data at scale.
