This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead teams in systems and software engineering to deliver a stable, automated connectivity infrastructure that is easy to use for The Home Depot.
• Automate device configurations, processes, and systems for the Networking organization.
• Design, develop, and manage Layer 4 and Layer 7 traffic management platforms across physical, virtual, on-premises, and cloud-based load balancers and proxies.
• Oversee the complete engineering experience for application connections, including GUIs, CLIs, APIs, and the supporting infrastructure.
• Implement Platform Engineering and Site Reliability Engineering principles to enhance reliability, developer experience, operational efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
• Encourage innovation, growth, change management, and process enhancements.
• Collaborate with stakeholders, product teams, vendors, and technology leaders.
• Assist in planning and funding reviews while communicating both technical and business trade-offs.
• Negotiate to fill skilled engineering roles within product teams.
• Participate in strategic planning and assess emerging technologies for enterprise-wide adoption.
• Work alongside UX, engineering, and product management to develop secure, reliable, and scalable software solutions.
• Write custom code and scripts to automate infrastructure, monitoring services, and testing processes.
• Implement essential tools and platforms in collaboration with vendors and partners.
• Develop dashboards, logging, alerting, and proactive incident response systems.
• Contribute to destructive testing, automation, and tools that empower engineering practices.
• Lead review board meetings to promote operational excellence.
• Provide application support for production software and serve as a technical point of escalation.
• Lead, mentor, coach, attract, retain, and nurture Software Engineers, managers, and individual contributors.
• Conduct annual and mid-year performance reviews, guiding team members in strategy, alignment, analysis, and execution.
• Promote collaboration, career development, modern software practices, and learning initiatives across product teams.
• Must be at least eighteen years of age.
• Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.
• Expertise in an object-oriented programming language, ideally Java.
• 6–8 years of relevant experience, including leadership of engineering teams.
• Proven ability to attract, develop, and mentor both individual contributors and managers.
• Experience in leading through other leaders, establishing direction, balancing workloads, and ensuring accountability.
• Background in managing change, process enhancements, and fostering a sustainable team culture.
• Familiarity with strategic and financial planning encompassing headcount, capacity, allocations, labor, hardware, cloud, and budget considerations.
• Experience in translating enterprise objectives into team goals such as OKRs.
• Proficient in managing strategic vendor and managed-service relationships, including SOW and contract negotiations.
• Ability to communicate complex technical and business trade-offs effectively from engineers to executives.
• Strong focus on customer experience, utilizing feedback and data to minimize friction and encourage adoption.
• Knowledge of application networking, including Layer 4/7 traffic management, load balancers, proxies, and DNS.
• Familiarity with infrastructure automation and cloud platforms like Kubernetes, GCP, and Azure.
• Understanding of modern CI/CD practices.
• Experience implementing Platform Engineering/SRE practices, such as SLOs, SLIs, error budgets, MTTD, and MTTR.
• Knowledge of cloud cost optimization and FinOps.
• Experience supporting a 24x7 retail operation.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field, or equivalent qualifications based on the stated educational requirements.
